Frequently Asked Questions
What materials do you use for outdoor banners to ensure they are weather-resistant?
T-Shirt Engineers produces outdoor banners on heavy-duty scrim-reinforced PVC vinyl, typically 13oz material for standard outdoor applications and 18oz for heavy-duty or long-term installations. Scrim reinforcement means the vinyl has a woven polyester mesh embedded within it, which prevents tearing under tension and wind load. All outdoor banners are finished with heat-welded hems on all four sides and brass grommets at standard intervals, typically every 2 feet along the top and bottom edges, providing secure, rip-resistant hanging points. For installations in high-wind environments, which is a genuine consideration across Nebraska’s open plains, we recommend reinforcing the grommets at closer spacing and can add wind slits or recommend mesh material for extended outdoor exposure. UV-resistant inks ensure colours remain vibrant through Nebraska’s high-intensity summer sun. Properly installed and maintained outdoor banners produced at T-Shirt Engineers typically last 2 to 5 years outdoors, depending on exposure conditions. Call 308-382-8742 to discuss the right material weight and finishing for your specific installation environment.
Do you offer custom sizes for banners, or are there only standard dimensions available?
T-Shirt Engineers produces banners in fully custom dimensions. There are no size restrictions for standard outdoor and indoor banner material. Common banner sizes we produce regularly include 2×4 feet, 2×6 feet, 3×6 feet, 3×8 feet, 4×8 feet, 4×10 feet, and 6×10 feet for typical event, retail, and outdoor applications. For trade show and retractable banner displays, we work with the specific frame dimensions of your hardware. For large-scale installations, building facades, construction site hoardings, fence wraps, and stadium-scale displays, we produce banners at any width and can panel multiple sections for installations wider than our printing equipment’s maximum roll width, seamlessly aligned for a continuous image. Our most memorable large-format project to date was a single 140-foot banner, proof that no order is too large for our production capability. For very large prints, artwork resolution is important. We recommend providing vector files or high-resolution images, and we will advise you on the minimum DPI required for your specific banner dimensions before production begins. Call 308-382-8742 with your dimensions and installation details for an accurate quote.
Can you produce yard signs for events, real estate, or political campaigns?
Yes, T-Shirt Engineers produces custom yard signs for events, real estate, political campaigns, grand openings, construction sites, and general business promotion across Nebraska. Our standard yard signs are printed on 4mm coroplast corrugated plastic, which is the industry standard material for outdoor yard signage. Coroplast is lightweight, fully weatherproof, UV-resistant, and rigid enough to hold its shape and stay readable through Nebraska’s wind, rain, and temperature extremes. The standard yard sign size is 18×24 inches, which fits standard wire H-stakes and is the format most commonly used for political campaigns, real estate, and event signage. We supply H-stakes alongside sign orders. We also produce larger coroplast signs in 24×36 inches and custom dimensions for construction sites, event directional signage, and real estate applications requiring larger formats. Signs can be printed single-sided or double-sided. For political campaigns requiring large quantities on tight deadlines, call us early. High-volume sign orders benefit from scheduling in advance to ensure delivery before your campaign window. For real estate, we also produce sign riders, frames, and post-mounted panel signs. Call 308-382-8742 with your size, quantity, and deadline for a fast quote.
What is the difference between vinyl banners and mesh banners for high-wind areas?
Vinyl banners and mesh banners are both suitable for outdoor use, but they are designed for different wind exposure conditions and installation types. Standard vinyl banners are printed on solid, non-porous PVC material. They produce the sharpest, most vivid colour reproduction and are the correct choice for most outdoor banner applications, including event banners, building banners, and temporary retail displays in sheltered or semi-sheltered locations. The limitation of solid vinyl in high-wind conditions is that the banner acts as a solid sail in sustained winds above 25 to 30 mph. A large solid vinyl banner exerts significant force on its attachment points and mounting structure, risking tearing at the grommets or failure of the mounting hardware. Mesh banners are printed on an open-weave vinyl fabric with approximately 30 to 40 percent of the surface area consisting of tiny perforations. This open structure allows wind to pass through the material rather than push against it, reducing the wind load on the banner by up to 60 percent compared to solid vinyl of the same dimensions. Mesh is the correct choice for fence-mounted banners, scaffolding wraps, building-mounted banners on exposed elevations, and any large-format outdoor installation that will remain in place for an extended period in Nebraska’s open, high-wind conditions. The trade-off is that mesh prints appear slightly less saturated and vivid than solid vinyl at close viewing distances due to the open weave. For installations viewed primarily from a distance of 10 feet or more, this difference is negligible. For installations in particularly exposed locations across Nebraska’s plains, we will always recommend the right material for your wind conditions. Call 308-382-8742 to discuss your installation environment before placing your order.
Can you create custom decals or graphics for storefront windows and walls?
Yes, T-Shirt Engineers produces a full range of interior and exterior graphics for storefronts, retail environments, offices, and event spaces. For windows where you want to advertise while maintaining visibility from inside, we use perforated vinyl. The graphic is fully visible from outside while the tiny perforations maintain an outward view from inside the building. For windows, doors, and glass partitions where full coverage is acceptable, we also use solid opaque vinyl for maximum colour impact and privacy screening applications. For wall graphics, we produce large-format printed panels on adhesive vinyl that adhere directly to painted drywall, brick, concrete, and most smooth wall surfaces suitable for both permanent branding installations and temporary event graphics. For floors, we print on non-slip laminated floor graphic vinyl that is both durable underfoot and safely removable without damaging flooring surfaces. Custom wallpaper is available for full-wall or feature-wall installations where a seamless, edge-to-edge branded environment is the goal. All of our interior graphic materials are designed for clean removal at the end of their installation period without damaging the underlying surface, an important consideration for leased retail and office spaces. Call 308-382-8742 or visit our Grand Island showroom to see material samples before you decide.
How much do custom banners cost?
Custom banner pricing at T-Shirt Engineers is calculated primarily by square footage of the finished banner and the material type. As a general guide, a standard 2×4-foot vinyl banner costs approximately $40 to $60. A 3×6-foot banner typically runs $70 to $100. A 4×8-foot banner, one of the most commonly ordered sizes for grand openings and outdoor events, typically runs $100 to $160. Larger banners scale proportionally by square footage, and large-format orders above 20 square feet often carry a lower per-square-foot rate. Mesh banners carry a slight premium over standard vinyl due to the specialized material. Retractable banner stand hardware, H-stakes for yard signs, and grommets are priced additionally. Design is included for standard logo-and-text layouts; complex custom artwork may carry a separate design fee. For the most accurate pricing, call 308-382-8742 with your dimensions, quantity, material preference, and deadline, and we will provide a detailed quote, typically within one business day.
How long does it take to print custom banners and signs?
Standard turnaround for custom banners and signs at T-Shirt Engineers is 3 to 7 business days from artwork approval for most standard orders. Simple yard signs and small vinyl banners with approved artwork can often be completed in 2 to 3 business days. Large-format banners, multi-panel building wraps, and orders involving complex custom design work may require 5 to 10 business days, depending on production complexity and current volume. Rush production is available for time-sensitive orders. If you have a grand opening, an election date, or an event with a fixed deadline, let us know upfront, and we will confirm whether a rush timeline is achievable before you place your order. As a local Grand Island producer, we have a significant turnaround advantage over national online print services that ship from out of state. Most of our banner and sign orders are ready for local pickup or local delivery well within the timeframe online services quote for standard shipping alone. Call 308-382-8742 to confirm current turnaround availability for your specific order.
Can you print banners and signs for trade shows and events?
Yes, trade show and event signage is one of the most common applications we produce at T-Shirt Engineers, and we supply Nebraska businesses, organizations, and exhibitors with a full range of event display solutions. For trade shows, we produce retractable pull-up banners in standard 33×80-inch and 36×92-inch formats, the most popular portable display format at conferences and expos, as well as step-and-repeat backdrops, table throws and fitted tablecloths, tension fabric displays, foam board and foam core signs, and large format printed panels. For outdoor events, we supply vinyl banners in all sizes with grommets and ropes, coroplast directional and wayfinding signs, A-frame sandwich boards, and feather and teardrop flags for high-visibility outdoor display. For grand openings and promotional events, we produce window graphics, floor graphics, and branded signage that transform a standard retail or event space into a fully branded environment. Nebraska’s agricultural and trade event calendar, including county fairs, ag expos, and business conferences, represents a significant portion of our event signage work. Call 308-382-8742 with your event date, venue dimensions, and display requirements, and we will put together a complete event signage package.
What file format do I need to provide for banner and sign printing?
For the best results with banner and sign printing at T-Shirt Engineers, provide your artwork as a vector file: AI (Adobe Illustrator), EPS, or a high-resolution PDF. Vector files are resolution-independent, meaning they remain perfectly sharp regardless of the output size. A vector logo that looks crisp on a business card will print just as crisply on a 10-foot banner. If you are providing raster images such as .JPG, .PNG, or.TIFF, the file must be at a minimum resolution of 150 DPI at the intended print size for a 4×8-foot banner, which means the image file should be at least 600×1,200 pixels at 150 DPI. Low-resolution images, such as logos downloaded from a website at 72 DPI, will produce visibly blurry or pixelated results at large print sizes. If your only available file is low-resolution, our in-house design team can redraw your logo as a clean vector file, which we recommend for any customer who plans to order large-format printing regularly. We always produce a digital proof for your approval before printing begins, so you can confirm the layout, dimensions, and image quality before production starts. Call 308-382-8742 or email your files to yenny@flatwaterapparel.com to get started.
Do you offer installation services for signs and banners?
Yes, T-Shirt Engineers provides professional installation services for vehicle graphics, window graphics, wall graphics, and floor graphics at our Grand Island facility and for local Nebraska customers within our service area. For window graphics and wall graphics applied at your business location, our installation team can travel to your site to ensure a clean, bubble-free, correctly aligned application. This is particularly important for large window installations and wall graphics, where even small alignment errors are visible. For vehicle graphics, all installations are performed at our Grand Island shop, where we control the environment for optimal adhesion. For outdoor banner installations such as building-mounted banners, fence wraps, and large event displays, we can advise on rigging, hardware, and installation methods and can coordinate installation for local projects. For yard signs, retractable banner stands, and portable display items, installation is straightforward and does not typically require professional service. We will show you the correct setup process when you collect your order. If you have a specific installation requirement, call us at 308-382-8742 to discuss whether on-site installation is available for your location and project type.
